The Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (ITACA), at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), has consolidated its leadership in technological research through participation in more than 130 projects during 2024, of which more than 65% remain active in 2025.
These initiatives involve a wide range of strategic areas that respond to major global challenges, including digital health, artificial intelligence, sustainability, fault-tolerant systems, energy systems, smart cities, advanced transport systems and advanced industrial environments, among other areas.

«Approximately 50% of the projects developed during the year have been carried out in collaboration with private entities, demonstrating the institute’s ability to connect scientific innovation with the needs of the productive and social network».
This intense scientific and knowledge transfer activity has enabled ITACA to recruit around 60 researchers to work on the tasks assigned to the different projects.
Research areas of interest
In the field of digital health, ITACA leads pioneering initiatives such as the development of tools based on artificial intelligence for the early diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases, as well as telemedicine solutions aimed at improving access to medical care in rural and remote areas.
It is also developing various lines of research to improve personalised treatment for patients, including those suffering from diabetes or glioblastoma, among other conditions, by offering clinical decision support systems for doctors.
This focus on improving quality of life also extends to sustainability, where the institute is working on innovative technologies for the smart and efficient management of resources, the development of renewable energies and the optimisation of industrial processes with low environmental impact.
Transport also plays a crucial role in ITACA’s research, offering solutions to improve the safety of air and ground vehicle operations.
ITACA’s participation in international programs such as Horizon Europe, EIT Health, and SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking (SESAR 3 JU), along with national and regional projects, highlights its global reach.
