DIDIMO project develops digital cardiac twins to personalize arrhythmia treatment

The research has been coordinated by ITACA-COR group, led by María Guillem, and it represents an important advance in the application of digital technologies to cardiac patient care.

“The work done in the DIDIMO project has been very positive: we have developed digital cardiac twins to personalize the treatment of arrhythmias”.

This is the main result obtained in this research, coordinated by the ITACA-COR group, which after three years has been completed.

Funded by the NextGenerationEU program and the Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI), the main objective of the project has been to create highly accurate and personalized digital models of the heart, known as digital twins, which allow physicians to simulate different therapeutic strategies before applying them in clinical practice.

DIDIMO represents a significant advance in the application of digital technologies to cardiac patient care. These advances have greatly improved the accuracy of arrhythmia diagnoses and have enabled personalized treatments adapted to the needs of each patient,” says María Guillem, main research of the project.

Key achievements of the DIDIMO project

The DIDIMO project has made significant advances in the field of cardiovascular health through the development of personalised digital cardiac models, which facilitate more accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment of arrhythmias.

“These models allow a detailed understanding of each patient’s specific conditions, helping doctors to identify more effectively the key points for interventions and treatments, particularly in cases of complex arrhythmias”, explains Jorge Sánchez, researcher of the project.

Thanks to the advanced simulations developed in DIDIMO, ablation procedures have become more targeted and effective, reducing the risks associated with invasive treatments.

“This not only represents an improvement in the quality of life of the pacient, also implies a reduction in healthcare costs by reducing the need for additional interventions and optimising available healthcare resources”, highlights María Guillem.

Multidisciplinary project

The project was a collaboration between Adas3D Medical, CorifyAF, the CMT research groups from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), and Hospital Clínic de Barcelona. Together, these partners worked to integrate advanced technologies into real-world clinical practice, making significant strides in the field of digital health.
