About the Institute
The Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (ITACA) of Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) has as its mission the improvement of our society through the transfer and application of knowledge from research in the field of Information and Communications Technology (ICT). With a global mindset, ITACA conducts cutting edge ICT research with an approach based on responding to the challenges that our society is facing, obtaining results that can be directly implemented by public and private entities.
Located in the Scientific Park of UPV, the Institute has a staff of more than 100 researchers, offering a unique working environment for research, characterized by a strong commitment to collaborate with other research centres and companies, facilitating the acceleration of Innovation and encouraging an entrepreneurial culture.
Fuelling scientific breakthroughs and technological advances with an interdisciplinary approach, the ITACA Institute conducts research over a broad spectrum of disciplines related to Information and Communications Technology, including digital electronic systems, industrial electronics, telecommunication systems, telematics, ICT systems in healthcare, sensor integration, electronic compatibility, electromagnetism and microwave research.
Founded in 1999 by decision of the Governing Board of Universitat Politècnica de València, ITACA was recognized in 2005 by the Valencian Government as University Research Institute, the highest research grade for research structures of Spanish Universities.
José Manuel Catalá Civera is currently the Director of the ITACA Institute. Previously, the position of Director was occupied by Professors Elías de los Reyes Davó, Antonio Mocholí Salcedo, Juan José Serrano Martín and Montserrat Robles Viejo.
