In the fight against climate change, developing secure interoperable systems has emerged as a critical driving force. These advanced systems are designed to facilitate the secure exchange of data, information, and resources, enabling seamless collaboration and collective efforts.

At ITACA Institute, we recognize the significance of secure interoperable systems in combatting climate change. The main objective of our multidisciplinary experts is to propose and develop secure interoperable systems that help to combat climate change, focusing their activities on:

– The design and implementation of digital platform architectures. These platforms serve as the backbone of systems for Smart Cities and Smart Grids.

– The application of Business Intelligence technologies to generate knowledge from analysing and processing stored data. Furthermore, based on this knowledge, to effectively present the information to people in positions where they can make decisions. For example, to help implement energy efficiency policies or design energy generation systems from renewable sources.

– Cybersecurity. In such systems, it must be ensured that the information received comes from the appropriate sources and that communication spoofing is avoided.

– Smart SCADA. Adapting current SCADA-based control systems to the new reality of networks and the IoT concept.

– Smart control and Smart monitoring. In those cases where a traditional SCADA system is not possible or desirable, new possibilities arise with IoT. IoT is mainly used in monitoring systems, but basic control systems are starting to emerge. In this context, protocols and standards for the operation of future systems need to be defined.

– Use of artificial intelligence techniques. A fundamental factor in smart grids is prediction, for which Artificial Intelligence techniques and tools are used to develop recommender systems.

In all these areas, intercommunication between the designed systems is essential, so one of their characteristics must be interoperability.

  • Promotion of Citizen Participation: Initiatives and activities aimed at encouraging and promoting citizen participation in Smart City initiatives.
