Urchuegu\u00eda, Borja Badenes and \u00c1lvaro Mart\u00ednez-Ponce (ICT VS CC),<\/strong> together with Manuel Alc\u00e1zar Ortega (Institute for Energy Engineering at UPV) and Efr\u00e9n Guill\u00f3 Sansano (Enercoop Group), analyses the behaviour of a real microgrid under different demand growth scenarios: the current situation and increases of 50%, 75% and 100%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Research details<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The research evaluates the integration of the ECHO-TES system, developed within the <a href=\"https:\/\/echo-euproject.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">European ECHO project<\/a>, using advanced simulation tools such as OpenDSS and Python, which enable real microgrids to be modelled and intelligent demand management strategies to be applied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.itaca.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Foto_1-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16107\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Javier Urchuegu\u00eda, Borja Badenes, Andr\u00e9s Ond\u00f3 and  \u00c1lvaro Mart\u00ednez, researchers from  ICTs Against Climate Change <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To this end<strong>, a simulation platform was developed that accurately replicates the electrical behaviour of the microgrid across four demand growth scenarios,<\/strong> capturing the progressive deterioration of voltage profiles, increases in active and reactive power losses, and the appearance of line overloads under high and extreme load conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe results show that as demand grows, the network suffers greater losses, voltage problems and overloads. However, <strong>thermal energy storage makes it possible to shift consumption, reduce demand peaks, relieve the most heavily loaded lines and improve grid stability. In addition, it facilitates greater integration of renewables by making use of surplus generation<\/strong>\u201d, explains Borja Badenes, researcher at ITACA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The study concludes that the energy transition will significantly increase pressure on electricity networks, with greater risks of overloads, losses and supply quality issues.
