The Association of Engineers of Forests of Spain has awarded the Medal of Honor in the Academic and Research field to the Valencian professor José Vicente Oliver at an event held on Friday, October 4 in Madrid at the Institute of Engineering of Spain, act chaired by its president, Carlos del Álamo.
Oliver is the first Valencian and the first professor of the UPV to receive this prestigious award. With this, 29 years of teaching and scientific experience are recognized in universities and research centers in Spain, Germany, Denmark and Australia.
José Vicente Oliver is a PhD Engineer from the University of Göttingen (Germany) and Professor in the area of knowledge of Agroforestry Engineering at the Universitat Politécnica de València, where he co-directs the ICT research group against Climate Change at the ITACA Institute, together with professors Javier Urchueguía and Lenin Lemus. He is also the director of the new Chair of Energy Transition Company of the Valencian Community.
He has directed eight doctoral theses and 76 degree and master thesis. He is the author of four research books and six teaching books, as well as 44 internationally indexed scientific publications. He has participated in 61 congresses in 15 countries and in 39 research projects, being principal investigator in 14 European and six national projects.
He was a seven-year member of the Steering Committee of INNOVAWOOD, the European Association for Forestry and Wood Research, and in 2009 he received the 2009 European research prize SCHWEIGHOFER in this field. He has been an advisor to the European Commission on issues related to forestry research and climate change. In addition, he was the founding president of the Valencian Forest Platform until 2017.
